SHORT GAP, WV – Clarence Cooper, 88, of Short Gap, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at home. Born on August 23, 1932, in Gala, VA, he was the son of the late Phillip and Elizabeth (Moore) Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters. Clarence was a 1950 graduate of Academy Hill High School in Fincastle, VA. He later graduated Dabney Community College with an Associate's Degree in business management. Clarence had many jobs over the years including working as a farmhand in Gala, VA; as supervisor for Hercules in Covington, VA; and as a laborer for the railroad in Cumberland. He attended First Baptist Church, Clifton Forge, VA, and Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cumberland, and was a deacon at both churches. Clarence Cooper really loved the Lord! Clarence enjoyed fishing, gardening, tinkering around the house, and vacationing with his family. He was a loving family man, friend, and neighbor; you could always catch him talking to someone! Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Kathryn (Tucker) Cooper; three daughters, Sylvia Cooper Gatewood, Vanessa Cooper Williams and husband Eric, and Anne Cooper Woolfolk; grandchildren, Victor Quinn Woolfolk, Joshua Alexander Williams, and Justin Blake Williams; two brothers; two sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, Maryland, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at 1 p.m. with Bishop Stephon Knox officiating.
