SHORT GAP, WV – Dennis J. Kratochvil, 64, of Short Gap, WV, formerly of Trafford, PA, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, at UPMC Western Maryland.

Born March 15, 1958, in Greensburg, PA, he was a son of the late Germaine E. (Dietz) and Charles W. Kratochvil.

Dennis was a 1976 graduate of Penn Trafford High School and went on to earn an Analytical Chemistry degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Since 1986, he had been employed as a chemist at ATK/ ABL. He enjoyed genealogy, model trains, stamp collecting, and gardening. He was also a member of the ABL Bowling League. Dennis was always willing to help anyone in need.

Dennis leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Carol (Klingensmith); daughters, Rhonda, of Berkeley Springs, and Andrea, of Terra Alta; brothers, Bryan, of Trafford, PA, and Vince (Shelly), Waynesboro, PA; cousin, Michael Richardson, of Short Gap; many nieces and nephews; his bunny, Gracie; grandbunnies, Annie, Elf, Louie, and Mr. Nibbles.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD, on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8pm.

A private committal service will be held at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park Mausoleum, Irwin, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the family and mailed to Rhonda Kratochvil, 88 Carolina Lane, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411. Any funds sent to the family will then be passed on to charity.
