CUMBERLAND – Gary Jackson Wright, 65, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, at UPMC Western Maryland after years of battling various medical issues. Born June 29, 1956, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Norman Wright, Sr. and Margaret (Dyer) Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Thelma Ashenfelter; sister-in-law, Rebecca Murphy; brother-in-law, Robert Ashenfelter, II. Gary was a 1974 graduate of Oldtown High School. He went on to work various jobs over the years. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Edna (Ashenfelter) Wright; children, Jennifer Schade and husband, Mike and Jessica McCoy and husband, Adam; grandchildren, Nicholas and Quentin Schade and Gavin McCoy; brother, Norman Wright, Jr. and wife, Beverly Wright; nieces and nephews, Leigh Wright, Jamie Lewis, Wayne Shilling, David Shilling, Miranda Murphy, Nicole Andreach, Heather Ashenfelter, and Robert Ashenfelter, III; sister-in-law, Georgette Smith and husband, George; Goddaughter, Sarahlucille Robeson. In accordance with his wishes, Gary will be cremated. Friends will be received at Davis Memorial United Methodist Church on Friday, March 11, 2022, from noon to 1pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1pm with Pastor Rob Pierson officiating. Inurnment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
