Mary Ann Lovenstein, 88, passed from this life on Monday, May 3, 2021, at the Country House in Cumberland, MD. She was born in Cumberland on May 20, 1932, to the late Clara and Hubert Lovenstein. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Louis A. and George W. "Lovey" Lovenstein. She grew up in "North End" and attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Mary Ann graduated from St. Patrick's grade school and Catholic Girls Central High School. She proceeded to St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana, and graduated in 1954. From there, she moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue her career in journalism. Mary Ann took a job at US News and World Report Magazine where she held various positions, the last being Deputy Foreign Editor, until she retired at age 59. She became a world traveler, visiting many countries including England, France, Ireland, Japan and China to name a few. Mary Ann returned to Cumberland in 2003 and took up residence at the Kensington. Mary Ann is survived by two nieces, Sharon Mike of Cumberland and Diane Rice and husband Jerry of Cross Hill, SC. In addition, surviving are three great-nephews and a great-niece as well as two great-great nephews and three great-great nieces. We would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and administration of both the Kensington and the Country House for the outstanding care and kindness she received for more than 18 years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, Cumberland, on Friday, June 18, 2021, at 12 p.m. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
