Obituary

RAWLINGS, MD – Albert Frank "Al" James, 85, of Rawlings, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, at home.

Born June 21, 1940, in Frostburg, MD, he was a son of the late Clive Winston and Grace (Winters) James. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 58 years, Dorothy E. "Dottie" James; son, Jay Taylor; grandson, Nathan Taylor; sisters, Elizabeth Preston and Grace Mann; brothers, Winston and Samuel James.

Al was a graduate of Allegany High School who went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Fred T. Berry DD858. He worked as a top sales associate for Snap-on Tools and eventually moved onto his career at Wilson Supply. His golden years were spent at Fore Sisters Golf Course working and golfing with his son, Matthew.

An active member of the community, Al was a charter member of the Potomac Valley Lions Club.

He also attended Christ Lutheran Church with his family, who he loved and cared for deeply.

Al is survived by his sons, Wayne M. Taylor and Matthew A. James; grandchildren, Elton J. Taylor, Ashton M. Taylor, and Ashley N. Taylor Nock; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Adelia McKenzie and Roger James and wife Geraldine; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, John Lopes; and former daughter-in-law, Linda Taylor.

In accordance with his wishes, Al will be cremated.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 1222 Vocke Rd, LaVale, MD, on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Daniel Swanson officiating.

Inurnment will be in MD State Veteran's Cemetery, Rocky Gap, along with his wife, Dottie.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Al may make contributions to Christ Lutheran Church, or to the Allegany County Special Olympics, 3701 Commerce Drive #103, Baltimore, MD 21227.
