Obituary

HAGERSTOWN – Alice "Jane" (Hardman) Ritter of Hagerstown, formerly of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, at the age of 73. She was born May 16, 1950. For 33 years, she was married to Patrick Ritter, also formerly of Cumberland. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Hardman; mother, Alice (Buckley) Hardman; sister, Carolyn Hardman. She is survived by her brother, Edward "Eddie" Hardman and wife, Kim, Ridgeley, WV.

Jane was the mother of three girls, Becky (Sites) Rinehart and husband, Woody, of Cumberland, and her two children; Paula (Sites) Morgan and husband, Eric, of Cumberland, and their two children; and April (Grove) Bascelli and husband, Mario, of Cumberland, and their three children; and one great-grandchild. She was stepmother to three children, Danielle (Ritter) Sattazahn and husband, Joel, of Harrisburg, PA, and their two children; Joy (Ritter) Kimmich, of Hendersonville, NC, and their two children; and David Ritter, of Halifax, PA, and their three children.

Jane was a 1968 graduate of Fort Hill High School. As a young adult, she participated in bowling leagues and co-ed volleyball. She became active in Johnson Heights Parent Group, including Allegany County PTA, where she held various positions.

She enjoyed watching grandchildren play baseball, football, and participate in their other activities. She relaxed by listening to country music and dancing.

While living in Fort Myers, FL in the 1990s, Jane was recognized for her excellence in customer service and featured in the Fort Myers News Press.

She retired in 2015 from McCrea Equipment of Greencastle, PA, where she worked as the receptionist.

Jane welcomed all and enjoyed her time with family and friends. Life experiences guided her and biblical readings became her textbook.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 4 to 7pm.

A committal service will be held at Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, on Friday, September 1, at 2pm with Pastor Teresa Adams, of Prosperity United Methodist Church, officiating. A Celebration of Life meal will be provided after the service at Prosperity United Methodist Church, 13505 Pleasant Valley Rd NE, Flintstone, MD.
