Cumberland – Amaya James Patterson, 23, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD.
Born April 14, 2001, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Jonna Jaye Yeager-Patterson and the late James Everett Patterson, Jr. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John and Dolores "Pat" Yeager; paternal grandfather, James Everett Patterson, Sr.; and an aunt, Gay Dixon.
Amaya was a 2019 graduate of Allegany High School. She attended Allegany College of Maryland and had plans to return to school to study brain behaviors.
Amaya was a talented artist who loved painting and drawing. As a gifted cook, she combined her passion for preparing meals and her interest in genealogy and family history into a desire to compile a family cookbook.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her significant other, Tyrae Barmore; siblings, James Everett Patterson, III, Ryan Michael Patterson, Jordan Koby Patterson, Brett Talan Patterson, Mariah Sioux Belt, and Nicollette Royer; nephew, Ashton Koby Patterson and a number of other nephews and nieces; godchildren, Lucas, Mason, and Mavis Ruddle; grandmother, Ethel "Lynne" Patterson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. She is also survived by her beloved dogs, Roxii and Ted.
Amaya's sweet smile always filled the room. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, girlfriend, granddaughter, niece, and friend.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway SW, Cresaptown on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop Matthew Georgeson and Pastor Shawn Shumaker officiating. Friends will be received two hours prior to the service.
Directly after the service, there will be a gathering of Amaya's family and friends at the LaVale Fire Hall, 421 National Hwy, Cumberland, MD 21502.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated after the funeral service.
A Celebration of Amaya's Life will be held at Northeast Community Center, Room A, 4075 Gordon Stinnett Avenue, Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732, on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
