Barnett "Barney" Leibowitz, 92, of LaVale, MD passed away peacefully at home October 16, 2026 surrounded by his family.
He was born March 30, 1934, in Baltimore, MD to the late Paul and Belle Leibowitz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Leslie Millenson Leibowitz; his eldest son, Steven Lester Leibowitz; and three lovely dachshunds, Prudence, Dutchess, and Annie.

Over the years he enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including golf, tennis, electronics, tending to his garden, listening to classical music, woodworking in his basement woodshop, and had a penchant for chocolate ice cream.
Surviving him are his three children, Nancy Leibowitz Weller, Mark William Leibowitz and wife Susana, Michael Gary Leibowitz and wife Alma; five fantastic and talented grandchildren, Matthew Leibowitz, Karen Leibowitz (Sam Solano), Gabriela Leibowitz (Grant Smith), Kyle Leibowitz (Meg), and Nicole Weller; one terrific great-grandchild, Elijah Dampman; brother-in-law, Jock Millenson; niece, Anna Millenson (Mark Wilens); grandniece, Thea Millenson-Wilens; grandnephew, Luc Millenson-Wilens.
The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Barney's wonderful team of caregivers Amy, Charla, Kim, Kathy, Julie, Dianna, Stephanie, Genna, Tina, Tracie, Jordan, Dylan, Rick, and Angela for their compassionate care and the comfort they provided. Words cannot express the family's gratitude for the team's devotion, kindness and support over the last several years of his life. The family also extends their gratitude to Dr. Shiv Khanna, The LaVale Lion's Club, and UPMC Western Maryland Hospice Services for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in Barney's honor to The LaVale Lion's Club (https://e-clubhouse.org/sites/lavalemd/page-6.php) or the Millenson-Leibowitz Psychology Graduate Scholarship at Frostburg State University, made payable to FSU Foundation, 101 Braddock Road, Frostburg, MD 21532, or given online at www.frostburg.edu/makeagift.
