Bernard George Stansberry, 83, of Oldtown, MD, went to Heaven, Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Mountain City Rehab Center in Frostburg.

Born August 12, 1942, in Oldtown, he was the son of the late Howard George and Louise Emma Lavenia (Santmyire) Stansberry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Jean Mincks and husband Owen; and brother-in-law, Charles Kenneth House, Sr.

Bernard was a graduate of Oldtown High School. After school he began working as a carpenter for Ronald Smith, then he worked for 23 years at the Kelly Springfield Tire Co., he then operated his own HVAC repair business, he then worked at Southern States Coop and as a maintenance technician for Cumberland Housing until his retirement. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Oldtown where he had served as trustee. He was also a member of Oldtown Historical Society and Oldtown Lions Club.

He was an avid outdoorsmen, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling to Canada to fish.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sandra K. (Nixon) Stansberry; children, Kevin George Stansberry, Sherry Louise VanMeter and husband Donald, Tracy Ann McKenzie and husband Andrew, and Shelley Lynn Loibel and husband Robert; grandchildren, Shana Marie Stansberry, Benjamin Wayne VanMeter (Janel), Joshua James VanMeter and wife Tamisa, Jordan Christopher VanMeter, Dr. Erin Kaylin Ann VanMeter Feng and husband Dr. Han, Ryan Andrew McKenzie and wife Brielle, Jared Nathan McKenzie, Allyson Kayla Anne McKenzie and fiancé Matthew, Corren Andrea Lynne McCain and husband Joseph, and Wesley Levi Willison (Airelle); great-grandchildren, Brittany Nicole VanMeter, Ethan Edward VanMeter, Skarlett-Ka Louise VanMeter, Zane Kenneth Neff, Waylon Hawk VanMeter, Jacob Aiden Feng, Shiloh Andrew McKenzie, Leah Hope McKenzie, Shepherd Alan McKenzie, Bryn Lynnette McCain, and Joseph Dominick McCain; and sister, Shirley Ann House.

In accordance with his wishes Bernard will be cremated. Friends and family will be received Friday, October 17, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 17908 Oldtown Rd SE, Oldtown, MD. A memorial service will immediately follow beginning at 4:00 p.m..

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Mountain City Rehab Center for their excellent care over the years.
