Obituary

Bertha Jean Miller, 84, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at UPMC Western Maryland.

Born July 2, 1939 in Cumberland, MD, Mrs. Miller was the daughter of the late Duane Robert Young and Odell Pearl Young. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) F. Miller, Sr.; sons-in-law, Brad Trenter and James "Jim" Dolly; brothers, Gerald, Laten, Robert and Kenny Young; and her sister, Martha Shaffer.

A graduate of Fort Hill High School class of 1957, she worked for 33 years at Cumberland Nursing. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. After retirement, Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her 9 great-grandchildren and was an avid professional wrestling fan.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Kathy Dolly; sons, Jim Miller and wife Lori, and Gary Miller and wife Christine; grandchildren, Reanna Appel (Tom), Brandon Trenter (Kendyl), Tyler Miller (Erika), Ashley Broadwater (Brian), Kelsey Malone (Cody) and Kendra Miller; and a brother, Willard "Moon" Young (Peggy). In addition, her pride and joy great-grandchildren, Mia, Harper, Caleb, Sydney, Camryn, Macey, Henson, Kolson and Ridleigh, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, May 10, 2024 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Pastor Ryan Viands officiating.

In accordance with her wishes Bertha will be cremated, and burial will take place with her husband, privately at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to her wonderful neighbors, Jessie, Pam and Linda. She enjoyed your daily chats and check-ins, and watching her favorite shows. She loved you more than you know. In addition, thank you for her doctors and to the hospital staff who took care of her the few days she was at the hospital.
