Obituary

Betty Jean (Lease) Evans, 94, of Cumberland, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.

Born on September 16, 1931, in Wiley Ford, WV, Betty was a daughter of the late Amosco Eldorso and Nora Virginia (Lechliter) Lease. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edgar and Emory Lease; sister, Dorothy Lease Steward; brother-in-law, Robert Steward; sisters in-law, Mildred, Gertrude, and Louise Lease; cousin, Frank Simpson; beloved nephew, Jeffery Steward; and close friend, Floyd Hout.

Betty was a 1949 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She was a supervisor in the engineering department for the C&P Telephone Company, now known as Verizon, where she retired after 38 years. Betty was an active and dedicated member of Living Stone Church of the Brethren, where she held various offices and taught Sunday school.

Betty was a devoted daughter who lovingly cared for both her parents until their passing. As a mother, she treasured supporting her children at Fort Hill High School football games, proudly watching them play and perform with the marching band. She volunteered in the concession stand and never missed a halftime performance. Betty took immense pride in all her children's achievements.

Above all, Betty adored her grandchildren. She attended every sporting event, band competition, and dance recital—often traveling many hours just to be there. Watching them grow into young adults brought her great joy, and she was deeply proud of each of them and their accomplishments.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Lisa Lloyd (Kurt), of Bunker Hill, WV; son, David Evans, of Sarasota, FL; grandson, Joshua Lloyd (Bri), of Hagerstown, MD; granddaughter, Megan Lloyd King (Zach), of Poulsbo, WA; nephew, Greg Steward (Gay), of Greencastle, PA; cousins, Jeanie Simpson of Catonsville, MD, and Ronnie Lease (Diane) of Ocala, FL; and many additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Friends will be received at Living Stone Church of the Brethren, 114 N Cedar St, Cumberland, MD, on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm with Pastor Tom Woods officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
