Betty Jane Harman, 90, of Cumberland, passed away on October 18, 2023 in Allegany County Nursing Home.

She was born on September 11, 1933, to the late Samuel and Ella Petenbrink. She was married to Gerald Haskel Harman, Sr., for 36 years before his death.

Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Geraldine Harman; and granddaughter, Cheryl Creamer.

She is survived by her children, Sandra and husband Dennis Shoemaker, Gerald Jr. and wife Janet Harman, Donna and husband Jim Hook, and Samuel and wife Carol Harman. Grandchildren are Cassie Dee Blume, Heather Khy Ware, James Hook, John Roger Harman, and Bryan Harman. She was also great-grandma to 14 and great-great-grandma to 7 children including her triplet baby girls. Betty's warm, nurturing nature made her a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and "Granny GG".

Betty was a loving Christian mother who cared deeply for her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for music and loved to dance. She would often perform at Friday after Five with her partner, Joe. They were the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of Cumberland.

She was a member of the Davis Memorial Church. Betty found solace and strength in her faith.

Betty Jane Harman will be dearly missed by her family and many special nieces and nephews. Her love, kindness, and joyous spirit will forever be remembered.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Monday, October 23, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone, MD.
