CUMBERLAND – Betty "Jeannine" (Higgins) Burns, 93, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at home.

Born June 24, 1929, in Mt. Savage, MD, she was a daughter of the late Thomas P. Higgins and Ruth E. (Kirby) Higgins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Edwin Burns; son, Michael E. Burns; siblings, Thomas Higgins, John Higgins, R. Alberta (Higgins) Wright, and William Higgins.

Jeannine was a 1947 graduate of Oldtown High School. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and worked for five years at A & P Market. She later held offices for the Allegany County Homemakers, was treasurer for the South Cumberland Business Association, and was a poll judge for the Allegany County Election Board.

In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and completing word searches. Most of all, she loved collecting antiques from estate sales, yard sales, and flea markets.

Jeannine is survived by her son, Glenn Burns.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 10 to 10:45am.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans' Cemetery, Rocky Gap, on Monday at 11am with Chaplain Bruce McBride officiating.
