Obituary

Betty JoAnn Wotring passed from this life to her eternal home on November 7th, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years, Roger G. Wotring; her daughter, Diana Wotring; as well as her parents, Ezra and Loretta Higgs.

Betty, born on November 4th, 1936, lived in Eckhart as an only child. She graduated from Beall High School and quickly began the romance of a lifetime. Introduced through letters by her aunt and Roger's mother, Betty and Roger began writing to one another and fell in love across oceans as he was stationed on the USS Owen. A wedding on Sept 10th, 1955 soon followed. It wasn't long before their family began.

Betty was the sweetest and most loving mother and dedicated her life to raising her children- Diana Wotring, Kevin Wotring, Blain (Debbie) Wotring, and Pam (Jeff) Mullan. Her greatest pride and joy were her five grandchildren, Kody Wotring, Korey Wotring, Kaitlyn Mullan, Andrew (Carlin) Mullan, and Chloe Mullan.

Her faith was one of the things that impressed most on her grandchildren. Betty came to faith in Jesus as a child and loved Him her entire life. He was a constant source of strength and peace for her and was central to who she was and the way she lived her life. Betty was a 60-year member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Known for her sweet tooth, Betty loved to bake, especially if the recipe called for peanut butter or coconut. She was an avid reader. She could read through a large stack of books from the library in a week, reading almost a book a day.

Most of all, though, she loved listening to gospel music. It was played regularly, with singing and praising God a part of life in the home. She will be missed, and we grieve for our loss, but not without hope that we will one day be reunited with her because of Jesus. She is finally home and with her Savior no doubt joining the heavenly choir singing praises.
