ELLERSLIE Bruce Wayne "Batman" Meeks, Sr. passed away at the Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland on Wednesday, March 30, 2016.Born on October 23, 1941, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Oscar and Gladys Meeks. Bruce was also preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Lee; his brothers, Oscar Meeks, Jr., Robert "Red" Meeks, Charles Meeks, Lloyd Meeks, Frederick "Fred" Meeks, and Gerald "Jerry" Meeks; and sisters, Dolores Helmick and Nadine Smith.Bruce was a very loving family man. He enjoyed the outdoors and would live in the sun if he could. He loved the water as well, spending any free time on his boat with his wife, friends or family. He loved to travel and go to theme parks. Bruce was also quite the handyman and could build anything. If he wasn't outside, in the pool, or on the boat, he would be in his shed working. He really enjoyed life and lived a great one.Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Linda Meeks; sons, Bruce Meeks II and wife Diana Meeks, Timothy Meeks and Wife Julie Meeks, Ricky Morris, and Jim Morris; daughters, Candi Meeks and Sue Morris; grandchildren, Amanda Brantley and Todd Brantley, David Meeks and Emily Meeks, Mike Meeks and Hannah Meeks, Brandon Meeks and Elizabeth Meeks, Brittany Meeks, Tiffany Barb and Derek Barb, and Jodie Meeks; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Raylynn, Noah, Cayden, Gabe, Johnathan, and Derek Jr.Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, April 3 from noon to 1 p.m.A memorial service will follow at the funeral home on Sunday, April 3 at 1 p.m.Condolences for the family may be left at ScarpelliFH.com or on our Facebook page.
