C. Kathryn
Hose
Feb 18, 1947 — Jan 24, 2024
Oldtown-C. Kathryn (Kennedy) Hose "Kate", 76, of Oldtown, MD, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Hagerstown, MD on February 18, 1947, she was the daughter of Gladys E. Kennedy (Stoner) and James F. Kennedy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Ronald E. Hose (Rusty); a great-grandson, Wyatt C. Brown; son-in-law, Gregory D. Brown; siblings, sister Mary Ann Zelinko; and brother Richard Kennedy.
Kate was a graduate of Oldtown High School, class of 1965. She married the love of her life, August 1965, and together they began to build their dream home and life. She was employed for thirty-five years at Sacred Heart Hospital as a medical secretary, her most memorable times spent on 3 South. She was a member of the Olivers Grove United Methodist Church, Oldtown.
Grandma Kate, as she was affectionately called by her grands, was not your "normal" 76 year old. She was full of life and energy and continued to live life to the fullest until December 30th, 2024. She was often seen walking down main street with her dog Tootsie and the child of the day. She loved to walk the C&O Canal and travel. She was known for her beautiful yard and house decorating, both inside and out. She also maintained the Oldtown Town Square for many years, mowing, caring for the landscaping, and starting the annual Tree Lighting event. For over forty years, Kate "tolerated" camping on Assateague Island, creating memories and passing down this tradition to many. Beginning with her own children and continuing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she never missed a sporting event or a church/school event. For almost thirty-five years, she devoted one day or more a week to watching grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Some of the best memories were made at Grandma Kate's house. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Kate is survived by her children, Kristina L. Brown, Oldtown, and Ronald S. Hose and wife Laura, Little Orleans; grandchildren, Andrew Brown and wife Lacey, Oldtown, Alex Brown and wife Kaylynn, Oldtown; Jared Hose, Little Orleans, and Spencer Hose, Lawton Ok.; great-grandchildren, Jace Brown, Warren Brown, Owen Brown, Hudson Brown, and Rylie Grace Brown; sister, Nancy Kennedy, Richmond Va, sister Virginia Reda and husband John, Bethlehem Pa, sister-in-law, Susan Kennedy, Waynesboro Pa; as well as many nieces and nephews, and special friends. Kate also leaves behind her beloved dog, Tootsie and cat, Lil' Kitty.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 4-7 pm.
A memorial service will be held at Oliver Grove United Methodist Church, Oldtown, on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11am with Pastor Charles Riggleman officiating.
A special thank you to the doctors and staff at UPMC Western MD, and UPMC Western MD Hospice Services, for their kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UPMC Western MD Hospice Services, or Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department (earmarked for care of the Oldtown Town Square).
