Obituary

CUMBERLAND Carl Andrew Meagher I, 74, of Cumberland, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at his residence.Born in Cumberland, MD, on June 28, 1943, Carl was the son of the late Charles W. Meagher and Mary Agnes (Stitcher) Meagher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie Meagher; and best friend ever, Mark A. "Perky" Robinette.Carl was a graduate of Allegany High School 1965. He was a Vietnam veteran who served his country from 1967 to 1969. He loved his country, and we will forever honor his service and sacrifice with his ongoing battle with Agent Orange.He loved his friends who met for coffee almost every day. He enjoyed working on cars, tinkering with small appliances, walking on the canal, going to the YMCA, and tending to his flowers.He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn J. (Appel) Meagher. He is also survived by his son and best buddy, Carl Andrew Meagher II and wife Alicia, who he called "girlfriend." He was blessed with the joys of his life, his beautiful grandchildren, Savis Richardson, Siah Cait "Love Bug" Meagher, and Meadow Star "Pumpkin" Meagher. Additional survivors include his sisters, Rita "Snookie" Grimm and husband Francis and Judith Eileen Meagher; one brother and best friend, Louis W. Meagher; nieces and nephews, Denise Appel, Mark A. Grimm, Kimberly Weimer, Debbie Kneisley, Michelle Stanley, Deena Helmstetter, and Dawne Renae Bush; brothers and sister-in-law, Ina Poling, John Appel, Leo Appel, Patty Maddy, Judy Appel, Jean Appel, Jeannie Appel, Dona Appel, Charlie Maddy, Charles R. Gay, and many many more wonderful nieces and nephews. He also will be missed by his buddy, Paul J. "Joe" Appel.Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm. A funeral service will be conducted at the Lighthouse of Hope Church, 11507 Moss Ave., Cumberland, MD, on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 12 p.m. with Pastor Tim McGregor officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in MD State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172 Honor Guard.Pallbearers will be Carl A. Meagher II, Mark Grimm, Craig Appel, Joseph Friend, Ian Maddy, and Eric Maddy.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
