Obituary

Carolyn Jean Meagher, 76, of Cumberland, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born on September 11, 1947 in Cumberland, MD, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Leo and Georgie (McFarland) Appel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Carl Meagher; brothers, Fred Appel, Gary Appel, and Harold Appel; and sisters, Ina Rae Poling and M. Elaine Gay.

A graduate of Fort Hill High School class of 1965, she retired from Orbital ATK (Allegany Ballistics Laboratory). She was a member of the Lighthouse of Hope Church. After retirement, Carolyn enjoyed spending time and making special memories with her entire family.

Carolyn is survived by her only son, Carl Meagher, II; her brothers, John Appel and wife, Judy, and Leo Appel; and her sister, Patricia Maddy. In addition, her lights of her life, grandchildren, Siah Hughes and husband, Jeffery, Savis Wiggins and wife, Sydney, and Meadow Meagher. She is also survived by her daughter-in- law, best friend to Carl, II, Alicia Meagher; sister-in-laws, Dona Appel, Jeanie Appel, Rita Grimm and husband, Francis (Frenchie), and Judy Meagher. Many precious memories of Carolyn are shared by the numerous nieces and nephews that survive her as well.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, May 14, 2024, beginning at 12:00 pm at the Lighthouse of Hope Church, 11507 Moss Avenue, Cumberland, with the Pastor Tim McGregor officiating.

In accordance with her wishes Carolyn will be cremated, and interment will take place with her husband, Carl, at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, privately at 2:00 pm after the service.

Carolyn will be remembered for all of the love and kindness that she showed anyone that she ever met. She was truly beloved by all who knew her, especially her family.
