David Ray Howser, Sr., 80, of Cumberland, passed away December 4, 2023, at the Cumberland Healthcare Center.

He was born in Cumberland, on July 4, 1943, to the late Walter and Arvella Howser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Kimberly (infant) and Melissa Howser; and his four siblings, Robert, Jim, Jane and Ruth.

Dave graduated from Fort Hill High School, in the class of 1962, where he played football. He then served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees. He worked at the Kelly Tire Company, Memorial Hospital, and retired from UPMC Western Maryland. He loved to travel, especially on ocean cruises. He was a faithful Fort Hill football fan and loved playing chess.

Surviving is his partner of 30 years, Fran Warner; his children, Tamara White and husband Frank, of Florida, and David Howser, Jr., of Chicago; their mother and former wife, Jane Hunt; four grandchildren, Krystole Davis (Geoffrey), Kayla Forster (Garrett), Melyssa Lang (Tyler), Alyssa Smith (Nathaniel); four great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Leilani, Isaac, Andrew; a sister, Cathy Mauck (Paul); and a large extended family.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland. A funeral service, officiated by his son, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rock Gap, Flintstone, MD.
