Obituary

David Andrew Taylor, 86, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at Cumberland Healthcare Center.

David, born June 15, 1937, in Cumberland, was a 1955 graduate of Fort Hill High School and served in the Naval Reserve. Dave was employed at Cumberland Steel, Celanese Corp., and retired from Luke Paper Mill. He was member of IBEW 307, a lifetime member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, enjoyed fishing in Evitts Creek, "driving" the course with golfing buddies, playing weekly bridge, and spending time with old friends.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie (Campbell) Taylor; and by parents, Lola E. (Mease) and Robert J. Taylor, of Cumberland. He was also preceded in death by sister, Susan J. White; and brother, Joseph R. Taylor.

Dave is survived by son, Jonathan D. Taylor and wife, Carol, of Virginia; grandchildren, Bradley D. Taylor and wife, Mary, Michael D. Taylor, and Hope L. Taylor, all of Virginia. He is lovingly remembered by daughter, Jennifer L. Sommers and husband, Jorge Ford; grand-daughter, Natalie Griffith, all of California; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Griffith and Caitlin Griffith, of California, and Clara Griffith and Cora Griffith, of Missouri. Also surviving are sisters, Frances "Peach" Hansel and husband, Ron, of Eckhart, Alice "Cookie" Weimer, and Tom Sterling, of Cumberland; sister-in-law, Kathy Storm Taylor; and his companion, Sandra "Sandie" Adams, of Cumberland; nieces, nephews, and their families recall times spent with their uncle.

Mr. Taylor's family wish to thank the physicians and staff at UPMC Western Maryland, and at Devlin Manor and Cumberland Healthcare Center, for the care given to him.

Per Dave's wishes, he was cremated.

Friends and family will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10-11:00 a.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m.

Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
