Obituary

David Hiser White of Cumberland, MD, age 84 died on July 27, 2024 in Cumberland, Maryland.

Born on August 27, 1939, he was the son of the late Mae Elizabeth (Hansrote) White and Norman Hiser White.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Holshey White, who he married in North Charleston, SC, on April 13, 2006. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Diane Ballou White, in 1996. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kay Louise Barmoy and Anita Hanekamp, and a brother Gerald Norman White.

Dave is survived by three sons, Mark D. White and wife Sheri, Ridgeley, WV; William Hiser White, North Charleston, SC; and Scott M. White, Bloomery, WV. He is also survived by three step children, Mary Ann Tamas and husband Abdul, Arlington, VA; Michael T. Spicer and wife Carolyn, Boston; and Steven E. Spicer, Washington D.C.

He has a surviving sister, Jane Chamberlain and husband Tony of Cumberland. He also has two grandchildren, David White and wife Roseanna; and Marcia Corwell, and step-grandchild, Charlie Spicer of Boston. He was blessed with four great grandchildren Rowyn, Xoe, Norah and Lyndon.

Dave is also survived by sisters-in-law Donna Nichols; Susan Peterson, Royanne Hedell and husband Lynn; and Linda Cooper and husband Lee all in Nebraska.

Dave attended Fort Hill High School before moving with his family to Omaha, NE, in 1954 where he attended South High and graduated in 1957. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was selected as Airman of the Quarter for October-December 1959.

Dave returned to Cumberland and was employed at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company from 1961 until 1987. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a member of the choir.

Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. is in charge of arrangements.

A visitation will be held at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 p.m.

A secondary visitation will be held on Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church on Arch Street from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m. A memorial service officiated by Pastor Alexa Smith will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. Military honors will be accorded at the church by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.

Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
