Obituary

Ridgeley Donald Lee Corwell, Sr., 81, of John Chaney Road, Ridgeley, WV, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Devlin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Born in Ridgeley, WV, on December 15, 1934, he was the son of late Susan Amanda (Ross) and Paul W. Corwell. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Corwell and wife Norma Lee; his mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Edward Brookman; and brothers-in-law, Donald Veronneau and Dave Hamilton.Don was a graduate of Ridgeley High School. Following high school, he served his country in the United States Army. After being discharged, Don became a meat cutter. He had been employed at McIntyre's Market, and he later was employed at Wilson Grocery Store. Don purchased the business, and he ran it with his family until he retired.Don was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and he was associated with St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Ridgeley. Don was a life member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, and he was a former member of the Goodfellowship Club and the Cumberland Moose. Don enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, working in his garden, and, most of all, spending time at his camp on the South Branch with his family and his friends.Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Eloise (Brookman) Corwell; children, Peggy Garver and husband Faron, Mexico Farms, Donald L. Corwell, Jr. and wife Tammy, Ridgeley, Becky Boyd and husband Allen, Bel Air, Cumberland, Paul E. Corwell and wife Sharon, Ridgeley, and Mark A. Corwell and Karen, Ridgeley; grandchildren, Ryne Garver and fianc Ariel Royer, Cory Garver and fianc Erica Friend, Donald Corwell, III and wife Sabrina, Brittnee Arnold and husband James, Heather Shupe and husband Kevin, Catherine Boyd and fianc David Heredia, Rachel Jackson and Chris Strickland, Leah Boyd and Andrew Martin, Christopher Corwell and wife Nikki, Travis Corwell and fianc Meghan Curtis, Katie Corwell and Chase Hockman, Logan Corwell, Tabatha Simpson and husband Ryan, and Andrew Corwell and wife Sabrina; great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Summer, Silas, Angel, Halo, Dean, Taylor, Eli, Roman, Victoria, Vivianna, Ryleigh, Tannah, Wyatt, and Emma; two great-grandchildren to be born in February and March; brother, George Corwell and wife Dottie, Wiley Ford; sisters, Margie Hamilton, Ridgeley, and JoAnn Tipton and husband Don, Ridgeley; sisters-in-law, Elaine Veronneau, Burlington, VT, and Margie Boyd and husband Dennis, Cumberland; brothers-in-law, Edward Shultz and wife Wanda, Conyers, GA, and Joe Brookman, Cumberland; Don's best friend, Bunny Hardy and wife Ruby, Ridgeley; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many cousins and very good friends who are too numerous to mention.Don was also preceded in death by his Yorkie, Wilson, whom he considered his best friend for twelve years.Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, October 21, 2016, from 4-8 P.M. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 1 P.M. with Fr. Michael Lecias officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded by Ft.
