Donald Lee Propst Sr., 80, of Ellerslie, Maryland, passed away as a result of a tragic vehicle accident on August 9, 2026 at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 8, 1946 in Cumberland, MD, Don was the son of the late Floyd Propst and Anna Kifer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two of his sisters, Shirley French and Gloria Jean Stegmaier.

He was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work, his home, and his many interests. He retired from Carpenters Local 423, where he spent many years working in the carpenters' trade. He was also a skilled machinist and spent countless hours working in his basement shop, where he enjoyed working with his hands, fixing things, and pursuing his many projects.

Don had a lifelong passion for firearms. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, and he later spent many years collecting, repairing, and working on guns. He was a gunsmith for 40 years, a craft that reflected his patience, knowledge, and mechanical ability.

He also enjoyed metal detecting, coin collecting, and attending auctions. Don took great pride in his home and his yard. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and keeping his property looking its best. He took pride in caring for his home and enjoyed spending time working around the property.

Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Propst; a daughter, Dana Lynn Greenbaum and husband Avi; a son, Donald Lee Propst Jr. and wife Maria; three grandchildren, Liam Greenbaum, Nicholas Propst and wife Rebekkah, and Donnie Propst III and significant other Alex Hernandez; two great-grandchildren, Lillian Propst and Silas Propst; five sisters, Dottie Smee, Mary Louise Slonaker, Diana Kiser, Brenda Ericson, and Lorraine Sturtz and husband Bob; a large extended family including many nieces and nephews; and many friends, especially Jimmy Deal.

Don will be remembered by his family and friends for his hardworking nature, his mechanical talents, his pride in his home, and the many things he enjoyed throughout his life. His basement workshop was a special place where he could spend countless hours working with his hands and putting his skills to use.

In accordance with Don's final wishes, he was cremated and there will be no funeral services.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
