Obituary

LAVALE – Doris Rose (Rice) Abe, 93, of LaVale, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert L. Abe; parents, Albert and Rose (Maffley) Rice; seven siblings, Albert (Junie) Rice, Joe Rice, Betty Price, Mary Morris, Hilda Miller, Anna Kipe, and Kenny Rice; and a daughter-in-law, Kelly Abe.

She is survived by her four children, Steve Abe, of Ridgeley, Christy and John Loffert, with whom she resided for the past 5-1/2 years of her life, of LaVale, Leslie Young, of PA, and Robert "Bobby" Abe, of Fort Ashby; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson with a second on the way.

In addition, Doris is survived by her brother, Charles "Bunker" Rice and wife Ellen, who were always there for her when she needed them; sister-in-law, Shirley Rice; brother-in-law, Roger Abe; and her loving neighbors from Maple Street, Joyce and Dave White, who always looked in on her and kept her well-supplied with tomatoes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was everyone's favorite aunt, grandma, and babysitter. She raised many children and had such a positive impact on our lives. She was a force to be reckoned with for sure! She lived life well! Her legacy will continue for generations because she spent her time loving us and not pursuing worldly things that will pass away. She gave when she had nothing to give, she went without so we didn't have to, she prayed for us, mended our hurts and was our safe place to run when life got rough. It's a glorious day in Heaven today and oh, the crowns she'll have to throw! (Maybe there will even be a Bingo game for her).

She wanted all her family to know at her passing how much she loves them. At her request, there will be no viewing, and a private service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at UPMC Western Maryland Home Hospice Services.
