Cumberland—Doris "Dori" Marlene Peterson, 91, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 at her home.

Born in Cumberland on December 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Leora (Coughenour) Peterson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Samuel and wife Helen, Estel and wife Mildred, Clarence, Sr. and wife Margaret "Tootie", Macklin Peterson and A. Guy Peterson; four sisters, Laverna "Isabel" Thompson and husband Harold, Betty Seltzer and husband Charles, Anna C. Peterson and Theona Peterson; sister-in-law, Laura Ann Peterson; nephew, Clarence "Bo" Peterson, Jr.; and Jack's life partner, Alma Brown.

She was a 1952 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She retired from Christopher's Photo Lab. Dori was an avid Redskins and Fort Hill football fan. She was always watching football or basketball.

Dori enjoyed caring for her family and became a surrogate grandmother to her many nieces and nephews. You could always find a baby in her arms. Birthday and holiday parties were normally held at Dori's house.

She is survived by one brother, Jack E. Peterson, who will miss her greatly; and many nieces and nephew.

Family will receive friends at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Seth Wharton officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
