CUMBERLAND – Doris Ellen (Riggleman) Melvin, 76, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at UPMC Western Maryland.

Born July 18, 1947, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late Dolores (Crawford) Riggleman Durbin and Wayne Riggleman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carole Vorsino; and stepfather, Walter Durbin.

Doris was a 1965 graduate of Fort Hill High School and went on to work as the office manager and owner of Federal Printing on Mechanic Street. She loved spending time on the beach and crafting. The Space Program, the Miami Dolphins, and the Hallmark Channel all held a special place in her heart as well.

Doris leaves behind her husband, John T. Melvin; children, Larry Wirtley II, Euless, TX, Starla Wirtley, Silver Spring, MD, and David Melvin, Cumberland, MD; grandchildren, Brianna Washington, Euless, TX, Margaret Neidhardt, Morgantown, WV, Ethan Neidhardt, Cumberland, MD, and Thomas Melvin, Cumberland, MD; niece, Natalie Gutzler; nephews, Bob Lashbrook and Mike Vorsino; several other nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 11am to 1pm. A graveside service will conducted at Sunset Memorial Park on Thursday at 1:30 pm. Pallbearers will be David Melvin, Thomas Melvin, Travis Corbin, Bob Lashbrook, Mike Vorsino, and Tom Charbonneau.
