Dorothy A. Newman, 96, of Cumberland, MD passed away on November 7, 2023, at Peace Healthcare at Lions Center, where she has resided for the last several years.

Dottie was born in Great Cacapon, WV, on September 27, 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Viola Henry; her daughter, Diane Newman; and her husband of 65 years, Robert C. (Bob) Newman. Dottie and Bob were inseparable companions right up to his death in January 2021, even sharing a room at the nursing home.

Dottie graduated from Allegany High School in 1945. She worked at the Potomac Farms Dairy before becoming a full-time mom to her children, which she found to be the most rewarding career she could ever have.

Dottie is survived by her sister, Barbara Henry of Cumberland; her daughter, Karen Kulla of Dillwyn, VA; sons, Brian Newman of Chesapeake Beach, MD, and Jeff Newman of Columbia, MD; and four grandchildren, Briana and Ryan Phair and Cara and Evan Newman.

Dottie was gentle and kind and known for her love of family and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her. She was a fantastic cook; whose dinners were always a highlight of visits back home for her kids and grandchildren.
