Obituary

Dorothy "Dotty" Mary Zaleski, age 84, of Frederick, Maryland, previously Cumberland, Maryland; passed peacefully on January 8, 2026.

Born December 9, 1941, she was the daughter of the late John Albert Wiley, Sr. and Clara Regina (Ruppert) Wiley.

Dorothy was a woman of deep faith whose belief in Jesus guided her life and gave her strength in all seasons. She was known for her kind and generous soul, her quick sense of humor, and a stubbornness that was as endearing as it was unwavering. Those who knew her best knew that her love was fierce, her opinions were firm, and her heart was always open.

She dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally. Dorothy had a long career in nursing and caregiving, roles that perfectly reflected her compassion and devotion to service. She was also a proud Navy Wife/Mother, standing steadfast behind her family with strength and pride.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Zaleski, her beautiful granddaughter, Kameron Fortney, and her siblings John, Richard, and Kathleen. She is survived by her loving children Kim Faircloth also known as KK (Kim), Lisa Gibson (Lawrence), Rita Fortney (Scott), and David Knippenberg (Cheryl). She leaves behind cherished grandchildren Jessica Gibson; Matthew and Megan Faircloth; Jillian Fortney; and Hannah and Ava Knippenberg, who were a great joy in her life. She is also survived by her siblings Jacquelyn, Regina, and Joseph, who will forever hold her memory close.

Dorothy's legacy is one of faith, love, resilience, and quiet strength. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the lives she's touched and the family she loved so dearly.

She is now our guardian angel, watching over us with the same care she showed throughout her life.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 13th at 1:00pm at St Mary's Cemetery, 14201 Uhl Highway, Cumberland, MD 21502.
