Douglas MacArthur Haan, 83, passed away on May 13th, 2026 at UPMC, Western Maryland, surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born on March 16, 1943 in Cumberland, MD to the late Daniel and Elsie E. (Lease) Haan. In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his siblings, Daniel Kenneth Haan and wife, Kathleen, Cpl. William Randolph and Barbara Ann Pfeiffer; brother in law, Carl William Bechie.

Doug graduated from Allegany High School in 1961 and moved to Ohio to work in the steel mill, when the mill closed, he started a landscaping and gardening business and later moved on to work as a door to door cable tv salesman for Tele-Media, which later became Comcast Cable Company. Doug enjoyed riding motorcycles in his younger years, traveling within the United States, fishing and hunting. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his family and watching old westerns on the television.

Doug is survived by his loving companion of 21 years, Loretta Helmick; dear sister, Shirley E. Bechie; step-son, James Runions; nephew, Tony Haan (Jennifer); nieces, Sharon Crawford (Calvin), Debbie Haan-Knoche (David), Danielle Carpenter, and Michelle Stellmaker- Harris (Craig), great nephews, Tony Haan Jr., Theodore Carpenter; great nieces, Elizabeth Carpenter and Christian Brooks; and hunting buddies, John and Scott Pratt.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 19, 2025 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 15205 McMullen Highway SW, Cresaptown, MD 21502. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm officiated by Rev. Bruce McBride.

Interment will immediately follow in Hillcrest Burial Park.

An additional celebration of life will be held at a later date.
