Moody, 72, soared into heaven on Saturday, October 3, 2020, when the Lord reached out His hand for him at University of Maryland Prince George's Community Hospital. The caring staff at Crescent Cities Center in Riverdale, MD helped him to fight strong to the end! Doug was the son of the late Chester Moody and Beuna (Stair) Moody. Doug is survived by his loving spouse of 48 years, Rev. Sharron Eror Moody. Together they were "soaring" into their seventies by drawing closer to each other daily and living life to its fullest! After becoming paralyzed, their faith deepened and their love for each other grew stronger! The joys of his life were his four children: Dr. Nathan Moody and spouse, Dr. Daniela Moody, of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Bethany Moody of Tyler, Texas, Anna Moody VanNostrand and spouse, Max, of Tampa, Florida, Jonathan Moody and spouse, Esther, of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a loving "G- Pa" to his four grandchildren: Ethan Moody and Zachary Moody of Los Alamos and David Moody and Ruby Moody of Indianapolis. Also, Doug is survived by his brother, David Moody, of Tyler, Texas and sister, Susan Moody Collins, and spouse, Don, of Brookeville, Maryland. He is survived by his Aunt Shirley and Uncle Lawrence Sicheri, Aunt Margaret and Uncle Russell Bucy. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Christine O'Rear, and spouse, Bill, and Aunt Joyce Eror and Aunt Rose Marie Hite. He felt secure knowing that Chris lived next door and would always be there for his wife. He is also survived by a loving niece, Amber Moody Wahl, and spouse, Toby, and their children, Roman and Canaan, of Tyler, Texas, In addition to his niece, he is survived by his nephews: Matthew Felten and spouse, Mindy, and Logan and Luke of Cumberland, Dr. Jeremy Collins and spouse, Dr. Mei-Ean Yeow, and Chester and Benton of Rochester, Minnesota, and Joel Collins of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Doug also had many cousins. Those who visited frequently were: Marlon and Kathy Kasekamp and Tanesha, Bill and Sue Moody and Hogan, Jo Ann and Bruce Talbot, and Chuck and Sharon Moody. Doug was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1966, where he continued his friendships while attending the class reunions and class luncheons, as well as dinners with close friends. These friendships were a source of joy, hope, and encouragement. Upon attaining his Bachelor's degree and Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Maryland College Park, Doug was employed by RCA in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and upon returning to his hometown of Cumberland, he was employed as an adjunct professor at Allegany College of Maryland and taught Electronics I and II and Digital Electronics in the continuing education program. He was also employed as an electrical engineer at Kelly-Springfield Tire Company for 4 years, Celanese for 4 years, and retired from Westvaco after 28 years of service in Engineering and in the Power Plant. In these last years, many of his best dreams were about working at the plant! His retired buddies would all meet together at Devlin Manor. He looked forward to those hours of reminiscing! Doug was a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Mountain Amateur Radio Club of Cumberland. Doug had a love for the outdoors and nature and was often found at Rocky Gap State Park with his family either fishing, biking, hiking, or camping. In the past, many leisurely hours were also spent at Canal Place with his wife. He cherished moments spent with his family and friends and thrived on encouraging others in their journey through life. His mindset, regardless of the circumstances that came his way, was outstanding and will continue to be an example for others to follow. He always had a smile on his face because of the Lord Jesus Christ who lived in him! Doug was an active member of Central Assembly of God. His last meeting at church was at a testimonial dinner following the all-day retreat culminating the fall Cleansing Stream Ministry classes. A turning point for Doug was a deeper transformation during worship on September 9, 2018 when he shared with his family and Ricky Howsare, "I experienced a deep, warm touch of the Spirit today as I entered worship with tears of joy! I have not experienced such joy since I fell and was paralyzed almost 6 years ago!" In addition to being a member at Central Assembly of God, Doug attended services on Saturdays at Full Gospel Seventh Day Baptist Church on Hazen Road, as well as attending services at Lighthouse of Hope, Living Stone Church of the Brethren (married there in 1972) and Park Place United Methodist Church –the church near his home childhood home in lower LaVale. He also had been a member of Boy Scout Troop 10 at LaVale Baptist Church. Doug's life was a living example of ministry wherever he went. For years, he blew the triple twist shofar at the National Day of Prayer meetings on the downtown mall and worked with his wife to call our city to prayer through Cry Out America at 12 noon at the County Courthouse every September 11th. On October 4, 1997, he attended a national Promise Keeper's Stand in the Gap Gathering for Christian men on the Mall in DC. For years, he led the local Promise Keepers Group that met in LaVale. During his seven years as a resident of Devlin Manor, Doug and his wife led monthly "Ministry with the Moodys" worship services. Residents would readily listen to Doug offering words of hope and encouragement. He was often seen going through the halls in his motorized wheelchair praying for people and reading to them from the Bible. His "family" at Devlin Manor were looking forward to him returning and will truly miss him. He had a good life at Devlin Manor! He appreciated how they went out of their way to make him feel like Devlin Manor was his "home" away from home! A celebration of Doug's life will be held on Friday, October 9th, at 12 noon at Central Assembly of God located at 2020 Bedford Road with Pastor Doug Seaman officiating, along with Pastor Ron Higson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, and burial will be held at Hillcrest Burial Park. Social distancing and face masks are required.
