Obituary

Cumberland—Doug Stafford, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at his home.

Born in Cumberland, Maryland, on December 21, 1948. He was the son of the late Joseph M. Stafford and Beulah A. (Barger) Stutler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Joni R. Roberson, Brother Johnny M. Stafford and Sister Rita D. McDonald.

Doug was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1966. After high school, he served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. After being discharged, he returned to Cumberland and was employed at the Celanese Plant until it closed. Doug was then employed and retired from the Allegany County Board of Education with 33 years of service.

Doug was an active member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a lifetime member of the Outdoor Club and always looked forward to having his friends up for Friday night card games.

Doug is survived by his high school sweetheart of 55 years, Dyane (Crites) Stafford; children, Keith D. Stafford and wife Karen of Cumberland, RJ Stafford of Winchester. Brothers, Steve Stafford and wife Nancy, Rocky Stafford and wife Donna, Mark Stafford and wife Becky. Brother-in-law Jim McDonald and a sister-in-law Linda Stafford and many nieces and nephews.

Doug's grandchildren were the light of his life. Keifer Stafford and wife Madie Stafford, Korey Stafford, Linkon Roberson, Reagan Roberson and Easton Stafford. Doug was looking forward to meeting his great granddaughter's arrival this spring. Keifer his oldest grandson kept his Pap hunting, fishing and enjoyed many cups of coffee sitting on the front porch swing. He will be sorely missed by many including his German Shephard "Sadie".

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., and 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Service will start immediately at noon with Pastor Cheek and Pastor Gene Morris officiating.

Interment will follow at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
