FROSTBURG – Reverend/ Captain Duane Romic Hauser, 98, of Frostburg passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Sterling Care Frostburg Village Assisted Living.

Duane was born in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, the eldest of Lester Hauser and Florence (Metzger) Hauser. He was later joined by Darris, Dean, Derwin, Lillian "Sue", and Doren.

He was married in August 1949 to Eva Mary Feenstra of Rochester, NY, for 60 years. His wonderful wife and partner in ministry died in 2009. Their surviving children are Dennis Duane Hauser (Susan Farwell), Etters, PA; Bonita Joy Hauser/Hickman (Rev. Timothy Hickman), LaGrange, WY; Judith Ann Hauser/McBride (Rev. Bruce McBride), Cresaptown, MD; and Timothy Wayne Hauser (Gaylyn McCarty), Lewisberry, PA. There are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also surviving.

Duane attended Williamsport High School and was trained in mechanical engineering. He attended Practical Bible Training School (until he was drafted) and Philadelphia School of the Bible after the war. He was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in 1948.

A WW II veteran, Duane served his country from January 1945 – November 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific theater (Philippines and Japan) as a Reconnaissance Army Trooper in the 302nd Calvary (first in 81st Infantry and then in 1st Cavalry). During basic training he served as a chaplain at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was a motor pool Sergeant in Japan.

He pastored various churches in Pennsylvania and New York State for 40 years. During this time he was also licensed in transportation (land, sea and air). He was known for his creative projects – building and designing boats, restoring and flying private airplanes, designing riding toys for children, and designing small model airplanes with working controls in his later years.

He was known as the "Flying Parson", using his personal plane to broadcast gospel music and Bible verses. He inspired many young people to pursue aviation and sailing.

For the past ten years he resided in Frostburg, MD.

Duane loved the Lord Jesus and has introduced many people to a relationship with Jesus Christ. He was loved by anyone who met him. He deeply loved his children and their families and was ready to give advice as he desired the best for them. His ready smile, humor, and desire to converse will be missed by all.

In accordance with his wishes, his body will be cremated, and there will be no formal services.
