OLDTOWN Earl "Gene" Slider, Jr., 73, of Oldtown, MD, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center.Born July 5, 1945, in Cumberland, MD, Gene was the son of the late Earl Eugene Slider, Sr. and Rebecca (Mullenax) Slider.Gene was a United States Army veteran. He was a trustee and member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church. He was a 1963 graduate of Fort Hill High School. Gene was an active member in the Oldtown community, having served as a Little League and Booster Club president, as well as coaching Little League and high school baseball.Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Glenna Jean Slider; his children, Donald Slider and wife Sandra, Colorado Springs, CO, Doug Slider and wife Vicky, David Slider and wife Ula, and Darrin Slider and wife Mandy, all of Oldtown; brothers, Daniel Slider and wife Connie, Oldtown, and Robert Slider and wife Susan, Cumberland; sister, Janet Imes, WV; grandchildren, Alexis, Matison, Brock, Kyleigh (Slider) Kennedy and husband John, Dillon, Shelby, Kendall Dean Ryan and wife Jackie, Alex, Tyler, and Stacy Cooper, Cody Kight, and Colton Keech; and great-grandchildren, Gracie Kennedy, Riley Ryan, River Cooper, and Saleena Crowe.Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 5 to 8 p.m.A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Steve Nelson and Rev. Carolyn Wilson officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral service.Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.Pallbearers will be D.
