Edward "Ed" L. Testerman, Jr., 80, of Cumberland, MD, formerly of San Diego, CA, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at his home.Born July 1, 1939, in Arlington, VA, he was the son of the late Edward L. Testerman, Sr. of Sterling, VA and Dorothy Mae (Stanton) Testerman of McColl, SC, and nephew of William P. Stanton, brother of Dorothy Mae Stanton. He grew up in and around the northern Virginia area and attended Osbourn High School in Manassas, VA, class of 1957.Ed served in the United States Navy and United States Naval Reserve during a period randging from September 1956 until April 1990, when he retired as a Cryptologic Technician (Collection) Chief Petty Officer (CTRC). During his naval career, Chief Testerman was assigned to the USS Enligh (DD696), Naval Reserve Training Center, Alexandria, VA. The majority of his career was with the Naval Security Group command (NSG) and was stationed at various duty stations, including NSGD Rota, Spain, NSGA, Fort George G. Meade (NSA), Maryland, NSGA Misawa, Japan, NSGD Pyong Taek, South Korea, NSGA San Vito, Italy and Fleet Oceanographic Surveillance Information Facility (FOSIF) Rota, Spain, all supporting the National Intelligence effort. He also served on a multitude of naval combatant airborne and seaborne platforms, including EC121, P3 aircraft, aircraft carriers and smaller surface units, various other shore facilities, in the countries of England, Germany, Scotland, Spain, and Taiwan, all supporting the U.S. Naval Security Group and NSA mission.Ed also served and retired from, after a medical emergency, the U.S. Border Patrol in March 2008, with thirteen plus years of service, and is a plankholder in the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego Sector, San Diego, CA, where he performed law enforcement duties as a Law Enforcement Communications Assistant and later as a Sector Enforcement Specialist. He has been affiliated with Masonic organizations since 1976. He was a Master Mason, a Nile Temple Shriner, and member of the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA); a past member of the American Legion and VFW.He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth (Kemler) Testerman "Lisa" of Borghorst, Germany; two daughters, Christine (Testerman) Haines of Cresaptown, MD, and Joanne (Testerman) Andrews of Frederick, MD; son Jeffrey E. Testerman of Paris, KY. There are three brothers, James T. Testerman (deceased) of Lancaster, CA, John R. Testerman of Culpeper, VA, and William W. Testerman of Stanley, VA; three sisters, Doris L. (Testerman) Farney of Fredericksburg, VA, Mary Anne (Testerman) White (deceased) of Martinsville, VA, and Patricia E. (Testerman) Hedrick of Martinsville, VA; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Donald, Kyle, and Travis; one great-grandson, Damion Riggleman; and many nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be conducted at the Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery, Flintstone, MD, on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Bruce McBride officiating. Inurnment will follow. Military honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
