Eleanor "Elly" Reitmeier, 83, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025 at UPMC – Western Maryland.
Born July 24, 1941, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Delphine (Myers) Welsh. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Michael "Snook" Reitmeier, Sr.; siblings, Robert Mercer, Michael Welsh, Leslie Stafford, and Sharon Dicken.
Elly attended Fort Hill High School. She began working as soon as possible to help care for her siblings, and began at the Queen City Dairy as a cashier and was promoted to lab technician. She also worked as a cook for Kellough's and then Norma's Hoagie Shops and then Hills Department Store until her retirement.
With her husband she was a member of Cumberland Outdoor Club, Goodfellowship Club, and Cresaptown Eagles. She coached powderpuff slow pitch softball in Cresaptown. She enjoyed spending time at picnics, duckpin bowling, bingo, and playing slot machines.
She was a lifelong caregiver for her family, friends, and many charities especially those supporting animals. Above all else, she loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Elly is survived by her children, Jill M. Reitmeier, John Reitmeier, Jr. wife, Kellie, and Amy Stephens and husband, Chuck; grandchildren, David Troutman, Heidi Reitmeier, Kelsee Lick and husband,Tim, Josie Reitmeier, Jalea Stephens, Soraya Stephens and fiancé, Jaylen Combs, and Chelsea Stephens and fiancé, Drew Wilhelm; great-grandchildren, Ryan VanMeter, Chance Troutman, Baylen Langan, Kai and Kaine Stephens, Luca Reitmeier, Levi Lick, and Sienna Troutman; a sister and best friend, Diane Ingham; a brother-in-law, Paul Reitmeier and wife, Shirley; a sister-in-law, Norma Clark; her large extended family including numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Doris Andrews and Vicki Martin.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, July 11th from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.; followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church beginning at 10:30 a.m..
Inurnment will be at the MD State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to a charity of your choice in honor of Elly's memory.
