Elizabeth "Libby" Ann Witt (née Shambaugh) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 79.

Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Olivia and Ovey Shambaugh, and by her beloved husband of 55 years, Ray Witt, Sr., whom she married on September 2, 1967. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Doris Whiteman (and her husband Bill Whiteman) and June Pryor (and her husband Clarence Pryor); and her brothers, Bobby Shambaugh (survived by his wife Sheila Schafer), Ray Shambaugh (survived by his wife Louis Shambaugh), Denny Shambaugh (survived by his wife Donna Shambaugh), Steve Shambaugh (survived by his wife Linda Shambaugh), and Richie Shambaugh.

A 1964 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Libby worked at Manly Sand and McCroy's Store Restaurant before dedicating nine years as a nurturing mother and homemaker. She later served thirteen years as a clerk for Chessie/CSX Railroad, followed by a year with Citicorp, and concluded her professional career with the Maryland Child Support Unit in Cumberland, Maryland. After retirement, she found great fulfillment working as a school bus aide for the Allegany County School System.

An active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in South Cumberland and a proud member of the Eastern Star, Libby was known for her deep faith and compassionate spirit.

She is survived by her children, Ray Witt, Jr. and Theresa Witt; siblings Virginia "Ginny" Carr and her husband Jim Carr, Frank Shambaugh and his wife Kay Shambaugh, Ronnie Shambaugh and his wife Stephanie Shambaugh; sister-in-law Sheila Schafer and her husband Glen Schafer; sister-in-law Annette Deener (née Witt) and her husband Mike Deener; cherished grandchildren Megan Steckel (and her husband Mike Steckel) and Emily Witt (and her fiancé Michael Raineri); and great-grandsons Aston Cole and Liam Steckel. Libby was also a beloved aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her cherished pet, Snowball.

Known for her warmth, humor, and unwavering commitment to family, Libby treasured weekly dinners with her siblings and their spouses, enjoyed trips to casinos including Rocky Gap, Charles Town, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas, and delighted in family vacations to Ocean City, Myrtle Beach, and annual Shambaugh reunions. She was a source of love and support to her many nieces and nephews, often sharing heartfelt calls and laughter.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, December 28, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. A bereavement reception will follow in the social hall of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 24 Humbird Street, Cumberland, Maryland 21502.

A private graveside burial service for family will take place Monday, December 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial, 13800 Bedford Road N.E., Cumberland, Maryland 21502.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Libby's memory to Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
