Erica Michelle
Maffley
May 22, 1985 — May 5, 2026
Erica Michelle Maffley, 40, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on May 5, 2026.
Erica was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and friend whose life was defined by the love she gave and the connections she nurtured. She had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and understood, and her presence brought comfort and meaning to everyone blessed to know her. Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her memory will continue to shine through the lives she touched.
Erica had a creative spirit and a unique way of seeing the world. She loved crafting and expressing herself through hands-on creativity. She also had a deep appreciation for all aspects of nature and an interest in vulture culture, reflecting her curiosity, individuality, and respect for the natural cycle of life. These passions were an important part of who she was.
Erica is survived by her parents, Rose M. Crosser and Hugh "Craig" Crosser, of Cumberland, Maryland, and Mark Maffley, of Ridgeley, West Virginia; and by her children, Emily Youngblood, Hailey Youngblood, Alivian Heavner, and Bradley Hapney.
She is also survived by her siblings, Justine Vick and Shane Vick, Jr., Seth Miller and Christina Miller, Devin Hughes and Cassandra Hughes. She was preceded in death by her sister, Miranda Hughes, whom she loved deeply and now joins in eternal rest.
Erica leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephews, Trinity Vick, Bailynn Vick – who she lovingly considered her best friend, Alayah Hughes, Eleanora Hughes, Charlotte Baldwin, Jansen Hughes, Addyson Miller, and Riot Miller.
Erica also lovingly helped raise and care for Victoria Miller for 10 years, a deeply important and enduring part of her life and heart.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, carried forward in the stories they share and the love they continue to hold for her.
Erica shared a deeply special bond with her daughter, Alivian, rooted in love, comfort, and togetherness. They found joy in life's simple moments – taking long night walks, crafting side by side, and having sleepovers filled with laughter, warmth, and countless cuddles. These memories reflect the tenderness and devotion Erica carried as a mother, and the unbreakable connection they will always share.
Erica shared a bond with Bailynn that went beyond words. She was not only a niece to Erica, but truly her best friend, constant companion, and someone who held a very special place in her life. Their connection was built on love, trust, laughter, and a deep understanding of one another. Through everyday moments and life's ups and downs, they stood by each other in a way that was rare and genuine. Bailynn will always carry a part of Erica with her – just as Erica carried a deep love for her in life.
Erica's love for family was steady and unconditional, and that love will always remain. Though she is no longer physically here, the memories they shared and the bond they built will continue to be a source of comfort, strength, and closeness.
