Cumberland—Etta  Louise Rice, 79, of Cumberland, passed away at her home on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

Born in Cumberland, MD, on September 10, 1943, she was the daughter of the late George and Lalla (Sciese) Hansford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill, Clyde, Jimmy, and Michael; sisters, Eileen, Maggie, Alice, and Ruth Ann; daughter-in-law, Cindy.

Louise attended Fort Hill High School, and she graduated from Allegany College of Maryland. She was a social worker for the State of Maryland working in both Hagerstown and Cumberland. Louise was a very active member of Trinity Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gary A. Rice, Sr.; children, Paul "Doc" Sponaugle, Jr., Kenny Sponaugle and wife, Serena, Tammy La Gratta and husband, Glen, Tina Giger and husband, William, and Gary A. Rice, Jr. and wife, Cheyenne; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Randy; sisters, Rita, Margie, Malinda, Mary Jane, Cathy and Becky.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 11 A.M. until 1 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 1 P.M.

Burial at Rocky Gap to be determine at a later date.
