Cumberland—Evan Norman "Chubby" Evans, 85, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in New Jersey on November 21, 1934, he was the son of the late Comfort (Higgs) and Daniel S. Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Esther M. (Evans) Evans and Alvirda (Samples) Evans; daughter, LaDawn Evans; brothers, Robert, Daniel and Charles Evans; sister, Patricia Kukanich.
Evan graduated from Fort Hill High School, class of 1954. Following high school, he served his country in the United States Army. He was employed at the CSX Transportation Company as an electrician until his retirement. Evan was owner and operator of Evans Auto Air Conditioning. He enjoyed construction work and fixing everything that was broken for his family and friends. In fact, he built his own home.
Evan was the Secretary/Treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a member of the Scottish Rite bodies as well as the Potomac Lodge 100 AF & AM where he served as a Past Worshipful Master. He was a 33rd Degree Mason. Evan was a faithful member of Melvin United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Evans and Sharon Evans; step-children, Mitzi Morgan, Tommy Samples, and Willie Green. Evan is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and their families.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, May 29, 2020, from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 1 P.M. with Billie Smith officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
