Cumberland—Evelyn (Benz) "Ev" Wood, 87, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2020, at her home. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 8, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Christine (Banner) Benz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David L. Wood, and son-in-law, Paul Young. Ev graduated from high school in St. Louis. Following high school, she was employed at St. Louis University Medical Center. It was in St. Louis that she met her husband of 64 years, Robert M. Wood, a dentist, and they moved to Cumberland. Ev was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Women's Civic Club, Women's Sportsman's Club, and several local bridge groups. In addition to her husband, Ev is survived by her children, Christine Saaty and husband Michael, Daniel J. Wood and wife Lisa, Scott Wood and wife Sara, and Elizabeth Young; grandchildren, Amy Mertens and husband James, Kara Saaty, Monica Pizzi and husband Jonathan, Samuel Wood and wife Lauren, Anna Wood, Katherine Wood, Sarah Wood, Sean Wood, Allie Wood, and Grace Young; great-granddaughter, Lillian Mertens; sister, Delores Love. Due to health-related restrictions, the funeral service will be private.
