Cumberland – Francis Edward "Sonny" Brantner, 84, of Cumberland and Westernport, MD passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Lions Center Nursing and Rehab, where he was a resident for 3 days.

Born August 25, 1938, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Vivian (Kelly) Brantner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Donald, Paul, and Kenneth, and his sister Carol Riggleman.

Sonny graduated from St. Peters Catholic School in June 1957. At that time, he joined the Army where he served for 3 years. Soon after his return home he was hired at Westvaco Pulp and Paper Co. where he was a loyal employee until his retirement in January 2001.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Connie (Martin) Brantner; his daughter, Liza and husband Steve Lutz; grandchildren, Ian and Emma who were his delight in life! He has 8 nephews, Aden, Jeremiah, Keith, Keven, Joesaph, Scott, Kenneth (Peanut) and Donnie; 10 nieces, Jessica, Danielle, Chelsea, Katie, Tammy, Tina, Ruth, Sally, Heather and Jessica.

For more than 8 years Sonny fought a valiant battle with the life sucking, debilitating disease called Alzheimer's. He is now at peace with his Lord.

Sonny you always in my heart, and I will love you forever!

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated.

A funeral service will be held at MD State Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Post 13's Chaplin officiating.
