Obituary

Gary Lee Schade, 64, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

Born in Cumberland, on August 14, 1958, he was the beloved son Gerald Bernard Schade and Twila Virginia (Imes) Schade. Gary was preceded in death by his son, Gary Dustin Schade.

Gary is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sharon (Smith) Schade; his brother, Richard Schade and wife Kendra; his sister, Donna Shewbridge and husband Blaine, all of Cumberland; his daughter, Brittany Beasley and husband, Brantley, of Richmond, Virginia; stepson, Michael Thompson and wife, Nicki, of Cumberland; stepdaughter, Emily Linaburg, and her children Lydia and Nolan. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Bella, Halle, Easton, Olivia and Scarlett; his niece, Marissa Gywnn and husband Will, their daughter, Nora, of Philadelphia, PA; and his loving canines, Scout, Griffin, and Cowboy; as well as uncle Ronnie and aunt Donna May, of Flintstone, MD, aunt Artie Byrnes of Rockville, MD, numerous beloved cousins; and an extended family of many, many close friends. He will be greatly missed by all!

Gary was a 1976 Fort Hill High School graduate, and a loyal fan of the Fort Hill Sentinels. He served in the U.S. States National Guard for 23 years. Gary was a great American, who loved his Country and served with honors. He worked for the Timothy B. Finan Center for 36 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Good Fellowship Club, Outdoor Club, and Cumberland Moose Lodge. Gary was passionate about his family and loved floating and spending time on the rivers of Potomac and South Branch. As his family and friends can tell you, he was quite the character that always liked to have a good time. "Quiet now .... the men are talking!"

Friends and family will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Friday, July 28, 2023, followed by a funeral service, and military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.

A Celebration of Life and Service of Remembrance will be held immediately following the service at the Good Fellowship Club, 225 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary's memory are asked to be, directed to the Allegany County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 566, Cumberland, MD 21502, or Ark of Hope Rescue, 13400 Arctic Ridge Lane, SE, Oldtown, MD 21555.
