Obituary

Gene "Sonny" Raymond Lowery, 85, of Corriganville, MD and having lived in Boyds, MD passed away and went to be with the Lord May 16, 2026 at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 26, 1941 in his family home in Corriganville to the late Raymond Woodrow and Martha Mae Lowery. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Lowery and his wife Charlotte; a sister, Sandra Sue Moore; nephews, Kenneth Lowery, Kevin Lint, and Jeffrey Raley.

Sonny graduated from Mount Savage High School, he was valedictorian of his class and was on their championship baseball team. After school he moved to Montgomery County, MD and had a long career as a carpenter and general contractor.

Baseball was a passion for Gene and he was a member of and past president of UMAC (Upper Montgomery Athletic Club) for over 40 years. His faith was also a central part of his life, he read and studied his Bible daily and applied it to everything he did. He loved the lord.

Gene loved watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Major League Baseball. He was an avid outdoors man, always ready for the first day of deer season; and fishing in his younger years. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his children, Bradley Lowery and wife Catherine and Cathy Thompson and husband Jeff, and their mother, Barbara Tenney; grandchildren, Nicholas Cavell, Samantha Gross (Kevin), and Connie Lowery; great-grandchildren, Whalen, Lily, and Madison; his sisters, Paulette Lint and Pauline Stewart; his large extended family including numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday, May 19th from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, MD.

Visitation will continue Wednesday, May 20th from 10:00 to 11:00am at LaVale Baptist Church, 1115 National Hwy, LaVale, MD; and a funeral service will begin at 11:00am with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating.

Internment will be in Porter Cemetery, Hyndman, PA.
