Obituary

Gene D. Park, 80, was called home to Heaven on July 12, 2024. Born on May 24, 1944 in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Lyle B. and Margaret (McKee) Park. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Roseanna Park, two brothers, Lyle Jr. and Julian Park, and two sisters, Linda Deremer and Bonnie Houdersheldt.

After graduating from Fort Hill High School in 1962, Gene began his Federal civilian career with the Department of Engineering and Special Projects, Army (DESPA) on the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) team, in Washington, DC. He returned to Cumberland a few years later to accept a position as an electrician with the B&O Railroad (now CSX Railroad) and marry the pretty blonde that he had been dating.

Together they raised two daughters, Deborah Ann, married to Bill Coons Jr., and Jacqueline Renee, married to Andrew Wolfe. One of his proudest accomplishments was sending both of his daughters to college and watching them become first generation college graduates. He believed strongly in the power of education, staying cool, calm and collected, and that his girls could do anything they set their minds to.

In retirement, he enjoyed growing garden vegetables (with an emphasis on "his tomatoes") and pursuing investments to boost his family's financial future. He was also known to those who drove past his house to enjoy a beverage or two on the old porch swing.

He loved to be called "Pappy" by his two granddaughters, Kayla Rose and Emily Sue, both of whom he spoiled with sweet treats.

He was the quintessential "Girl Dad/Pappy".

He will be missed but his family is comforted knowing that he has been reunited with his #1 girl in Heaven.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, July 24th from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, MD.
