On Saturday July 11th at UMPC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburg, PA, George was called Home to be with The Lord.

George was born in Washington, DC, to the late parent Alease Terry and George Franklin, Jr., and was also raised in Washington, DC.

As a teenager, he suffered kidney failure followed by several other serious health issues. Receiving a second kidney in 1975, that miraculously lasted over 50 years, he began his lifelong passion to share his story and educate others on the importance of organ and tissue donation. George has been recognized as the only African American in the nation who has the longest 'same kidney' transplant from a deceased donor.

George has been recognized by over 30 national organizations, local radio and TV stations, and periodicals for his work in educating individuals on its importance of organ and tissue donations and sharing his experiences.

George leaves to mourn his son, Waylon (Tonya). Also in mourning are his siblings, Carolyn and Brian (Jacqueline); grandchildren, Aniya, Waylon Jr., Joshua and Aaliyah; nephew, Sean (Yaco); great nephew, James; great niece, Joy; and, Portia Chandler, and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 10:00 am at Faith Assembly of Christ, 5135 Marlboro Pike, Capitol Heights, MD 20743.
