George M. Pellegrino, MD, 73, went home to be with the Lord on February 7, 2025 at UPMC-Western Maryland surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in New York City, NY on June 3, 1951 to the late Antonio and Joyce Pellegrino. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Madison; his brother, Roy Pellegrino and his wife Linda; brother-in-law, Mike Gallagher; mother-in-law, Jean; his uncles, Benny and Ted; and his beloved dog companion Chester.
George was raised in Middletown, NJ and graduated from Middletown High School. He then graduated from Rutgers University, followed by medical school in Guadalajara, Mexico. He then did a surgical residency in Bridgeport, CT, and then a family practice residency, at Prince George's Hospital and was a much appreciated and admired Chief Resident. As a medical doctor he began practicing in Cumberland, MD and transitioned to the Veterans Affairs Clinic until his retirement. While at the VA, George was proud to participate in the chemical and biological casualty drills.
George loved raising his family in Cumberland, and spending time with his family was very important to him. He was a very knowledgeable on many topics, from mechanical and construction projects to saving lives. He loved spending time outdoors, especially at his farm in Addison, PA where he proudly worked on his log home, cutting the fields with his tractor, his massive garden, and being followed by his chickens.
Surviving is wife of 35 years Cindy Pellegrino; his children, Robert Henry and wife Kate, George Pellegrino Jr., Christine Pellegrino, and Brianna Pellegrino; grandchildren, Natalie Henry and Richard Keller; siblings, Anthony Pellegrino, Terry Baker and husband Lee, Joy Santillo and husband Steve; nieces and nephews, Christopher Baker, Jennifer Allen, Devon Baker, Meaghan Frisina, Katelynn Gallagher, and Michael Gallagher; sister-in-law, Sherri Necessary; and his extended family members, Pat and Mary Schimpf and children, Nicole, Jennifer, Rachel, and Daniel.
In addition to his family, George is survived by dear friends who brought joy and companionship to his life, including Mike Glover, Kevin Juergensen, and Jim and Robin of the Blue Goose in Addison, PA.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, and a funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 4:00 p.m. with Chaplain Paul Demers officiating.
