TRINITY, NC – Gerald Leroy Perkins, 75, of Trinity, NC, formerly of Bossier City, LA, New Cumberland, PA, and Cumberland, MD, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, NC.

Born November 17, 1948, in Warren Township, PA, he was a son of the late William Leonard and Geraldine (McFadden) Perkins.

Gerald was a 1967 graduate of Allegany High School. He served his country in the United States Navy during the late 1960s. He took an early retirement from the New Cumberland Army Depot and went on to end his career with working in maintenance for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Gerald was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a collector of NASCAR memorabilia. Cars and motorcycles were his passion, as he regularly obtained new vehicles and repaired, maintained, and enjoyed the ones he had.

Gerald leaves behind his wife, Barbara J. (Emerick) Perkins; sisters, Mabel Argenbright, Sophia NC, Rebecca Perkins Corley, Cumberland, MD; special niece who was like a daughter, Michelle Messersmith, Sophia, NC; and nephew, Kurt Messersmith, New Holland, PA.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, June 29 at 10am. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park, Cumberland, MD.
