Gladys Virginia Barbe (Gordon), age 85, of Cumberland, MD, died on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Western Maryland Heath Center.Born on September 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late James Oliver and Francis Virginia Gordon.She was part of the Cumberland First Church of the Nazarene for many years. Gladys grew up in South Cumberland and she attended Fort Hill High School. She worked for many years at the Celanese Fibers factory and then worked many jobs in food service. Most recently, when Gladys was in her 70's, she worked as a CNA at Tender Loving Care. The greatest joy of Gladys's life was her family. In addition to talking and spending time with her children, she loved the time spent with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Having lived in Cumberland her whole life, Gladys was friends with everyone. If you met Gladys and knew Gladys, you loved her. She was one of the most loving, giving, and caring persons you could ever meet. She lived for many years at JFK Towers and loved the time spent with friends and the time spent sitting out front enjoying the warm weather.Surviving are her three children, Vicki Lewis-Stiltz, Oklahoma City, OK, Cheryl Campbell (Jim Zecca) Purcellville, VA, and Craig Lewis (Kathy) Winchester, VA. Gladys also had 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.Gladys was the last remaining member of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delton Barbe; her sisters, Myrtle Rutt, Clara Silvious, and Bertha Perrault; and brothers, George and James Gordon.The family would also like to give a special thank you to everyone at Chamberlains Assisted Living where Gladys has lived for the past year. She was affectionately called, "Glady" by the staff and the people who lived there. They treated her with love and care and it did not go unnoticed by the family.Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. with Pastor Steve Monington officiating.
