Harmon Edward Barton, 92, of Cresaptown, MD, passed away September 14, 2025 at Moran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Westernport, MD.
Eddie was born March 20, 1933, in Cumberland, MD, to the late Harmon J. and Nellie C. (Grabenstein) Barton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda A. (Walters) Barton; both of his sons, Charles Barton and James Barton; a sister, Joan McDonald and her husband, Jim; brothers-in-law, Floyd Umstot, Jr., Ross Walters and his wife, Dottie, and Leason Walters and his wife, Fran; and nephews, David Umstot and Scott Walters.
Eddie served his country with the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a lifelong dairy farmer on his family's farm. He loved deer hunting and watching westerns – especially Gun Smoke. He was an active member and usher at St. Ambrose Catholic Church until its closure. Everybody loved Eddie; he was a friend to everyone he met, and he will be greatly missed.
Surviving is his sister, Helen Jean (Barton) Umstot; three nieces, Diane Dawson (Bob), Kay Walters, and Vonda Umstot; nephews, Douglas Umstot (Nadine), Donnie Umstot (Diana), and Dale Umstot (Shelly); his extended family including many great nieces and nephews; close friends who all loved him very much, Murrell (whom he called Daddy) Mckenzie (Pauline) and Connie Smith, Sydney Smith, Benni Sites, Brittani Snoberger, and Merina Snoberger.
Viewing will be Thursday, September 18 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown. A funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Steve Fernandes, OFM, Cap. officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 13 Honor Guard.
Burial will be in St. Ambrose Cemetery, Cresaptown.
Pallbearers will be Matt Sites, Robert Dixon, Shawn Snoberger, Dale Umstot, and Jason Ward.
