WILEY FORD – Harold David "Dave" Malone, 82, of Wiley Ford, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Moran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on September 25, 1938, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Donald and Margaret Malone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Alice (Twigg) Malone, in 2008. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Linda; sister, Carol Vanetta and husband John; sister-in-law, Iva Burkett and husband Vincent; as well as his canine companion, Boogie Man, who never left his side. Dave graduated from Ridgeley High School. He was a medic in the US Army. He was the owner of Malone's Grocery in Wiley Ford, WV, for 15 years. He was employed by the Iron Worker's Local 568. He was a member of the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren. Dave's biggest passion in life was the fire service, and his heart and soul were a huge part of the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lifetime member, having served more than 60 years in the department. In those 60 years, he held many positions within the department and received many awards. He was a fixture at the fire hall, whether it be teaching another member, helping with a hoagie sale, or lending a hand to whoever needed it. He was also proud to guide his sons into the volunteer fire service along with him. Dave spent 13 years dedicated to caring for his wife, Alice, after she became ill. Even after she passed, he continued to be an active volunteer at the Lion's Center where he was the president of Family Council, played Santa Claus for many Christmas events, and led up numerous fundraisers. Dave was also well known in the area for his pitching arm in many of the local softball leagues, especially the fast pitch league. Surviving are his sons, Timothy and wife Cara, Short Gap, and Sean and wife Jeannie, Ridgeley; four grandchildren, Kaden Kylie, Haley, and Tage Malone; sisters, Bonnie Tallman, and Paulette Sigulinsky and husband Ed; brothers, Ronald and Robert Malone; and niece, Cathy Corley and husband Jim, and their daughter Taylor Brant and husband Cole. Dave also left behind his most recent furry companion, Tank the cat. Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday, June 24, 2021, from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, June 25, 2021, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jim Kasecamp officiating. Pallbearers will be Duane Largent, Terry Ashenfelter, Kenny Morlen, Bill Linsday, Mick Malone, and Terry Malone. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
